All of us across the globe have been affected by COVID-19 in more ways than one. Perhaps you are experiencing days without leaving your home and when you do, it’s only to visit the grocery store with a face mask, gloves, and hand sanitizer. Maybe this pandemic has resulted in your loss of income, difficulties getting important medical attention, or even having important social contact. This is the case for countless people in the United States, and specifically, this is a harsh reality for many young adults who are transitioning out of the foster care system and into adulthood.

We won’t lie- we at Doing Good Works feel fearful and uncertain, but we also feel inspired by the beauty of communities coming together to support one another during this time of need. This is why we have committed all profits from our print shop, Purpose Printery, to be given to former foster youth who are struggling to meet their basic living needs as a result of COVID-19.

While our founders never could have predicted today’s realities when they created Doing Good Works, their vision was for this business to improve lives and connect communities. Our business model continues to make an impact because we know COVID-19 poses a serious threat to the stability and progress of countless foster care alumni around the United States.

The outcomes for our young adults from this sector of the population in the United States are unacceptable. Within four years of exiting care, more than 50% of youth find themselves experiencing unemployment and homelessness. Furthermore, only 3% of youth who age out of foster care graduate from a four-year university. We are driven to change these outcomes, one person at a time, and we believe that business can be part of the solution.

Our hope is to empower you to also reject these outcomes for young adults and take a stand to make a change. We have designed a unique collection called “Stronger Together” that is available through our online merchandise store, Purpose Printery. Not only do your purchases create job opportunities for young adults transitioning out of the foster care system (yes, even during this pandemic!), but the profits from your purchase also go to youth who are in need of critical financial support during COVID-19. Through your purchase from Purpose Printery, you are reminding our world that we are stronger together as we fight for the hope, safety, and health for young people who need it most.

Visit purposeprintery.com to purchase your Stronger Together merchandise and support former foster youth who have been affected by COVID-19.
